LOVE ETHIC is a mail art project.

LOVE ETHIC works towards political change at the individual level via language, art and community.

LOVE ETHIC encourages love when “love” means more than warm feelings, when love is a skill, a strength and a productive outcome. Discerning and disciplined, love enacts no violence. In 2022, LOVE ETHIC means demilitarize, defund and abolish.

LOVE ETHIC commissions international artists to make art multiples, for sale, with all proceeds donated to Black Lives Matter.

LOVE ETHIC is looking for the next maker(s) to participate in LOVE ETHIC Part 3: “Chaos”

LOVE ETHIC is seeking artists, writers, curators, musicians, scientists, researchers, activists, children, grandparents, parents, philosophers...anyone who is interested in making art that has the potential to encourage individuals to enact change.

Details:

“Chaos” should be explored in relation to current political events, either recent past events or imagined futures. Let your ideas be radical, be poetic, be romantic, be angry, be fearful, or brave.

The artworks can be made of any non-fragile material as long as it is legally acceptable by mail. Artworks must fit easily into an envelope so they can be mailed as such, and not as a package.

Please note: artworks must be complete and mailed out no later than December 5th, 2020

1. LOVE ETHIC makers must produce 50 multiples in the medium of your choice. It can include more than one medium or just one medium. They can be found objects.

2. LOVE ETHIC artworks must be sent in a green envelope in the size that best suits the artworks, bearing the LOVE ETHIC stamp. *Further details to come.

3. LOVE ETHIC artworks must weigh NO MORE than a standard gift card.

4. LOVE ETHIC artworks must be sent on or before the deadline to 25 recipients of your choosing locally or internationally

5. LOVE ETHIC artworks must be an edition, meaning all 50 should be (relatively) exactly the same in colour, size, quality, shape etc...

6. LOVE ETHIC artworks should encourage love as a strength, as power, as a form of knowledge.

7. LOVE ETHIC makers will be reimbursed for postal costs and given an honorarium

*25 LOVE ETHIC multiples are sent for free and 25 LOVE ETHIC multiples will be for sale for $10.00ea with proceeds going Black Lives Matter, STOP the Transatlantic Pipeline , and defunding military and police.

**Artworks and intellectual property remains the property of the makers, and credited as such on all promotional materials.

Deadline for Submissions: October 15th, 2020

LOVE ETHIC is pleased to have Canadian artist Laura Madera as the maker of art multiples for Part 3: Chaos.

Madera uses watercolour, in multiple layers to create rich, complex and sometimes unexpected colour. She considers gravity and the properties of water as collaborators. She begins a painting, or series of paintings, by asking questions - about place, colour, light and process.

We’re looking forward to seeing Madera’s work in January 2021 when it will be available for purchase.
