"Becoming Plant" is based on feminist understandings of transformation, the hybrid body, and the monster as they relate to the weird, eerie, and divine

The 5-day masterclass focuses on experimental drawing methods, writing and sketchbook exercises applicable to drawing, writing, research, curatorial, collaborative, and other art practices.

Participants will learn about historical and contemporary feminist mythologies, the role of the hybrid and monster as cultural symbols/models, divine feminist symbols and narratives of transformation, in addition to discovering new drawing techniques, and journaling/sketchbook processes.

Participants draw using selected dry materials, following prompts from course readings and podcasts

Participants were limited to pencil, coloured pencil and felt markers for the first drawing session.

Participants were asked to use selected materials, layering each session - pencil, coloured pencil, charcoal, pastel etc...

Participants were asked to gather found materials and objects, make them unknown, and write their origin story according to their perspective.

In Day 3-5 different drawing materials were introduced, to allow for a layering of information. Participants worked collaboratively and independently.
