"Becoming Plant" Workshop
"Becoming Plant" is based on feminist understandings of transformation, the hybrid body, and the monster as they relate to the weird, eerie, and divine
The workshop focuses on experimental drawing methods, writing and sketchbook exercises applicable to drawing, writing, research, curatorial, collaborative, and other art practices.
Participants will learn about historical and contemporary feminist mythologies, the role of the hybrid and monster as cultural symbols/models, divine feminist symbols and narratives of transformation, in addition to discovering new drawing techniques, and journaling/sketchbook processes.
"Becoming Plant" is adaptable in duration, length and content, online or in-person. Originally a 5-day masterclass hosted by Berlin Art Institute, I've presented the workshop in 1-day formats and also as shorter 3 or 4 hour workshops.

"Becoming Plant" Workshop, March 2024
Vanessa Grasse, dance and multidisciplinary artist, invited me to host a "Becoming Plant" workshop with 5 participants – 3 dancers and 2 visual artists – via Skype. I was invited as part of Grasse's creative research project, Elysia, funded by Arts Council England.
The workshop was approximately 3.5hours with participants engaging in drawing, writing and movement exercises. The exercises were prompted via my presentation and readings offered via Skype.
